Spiritual Essential: Grace
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)
Every athlete has a wheelhouse. It’s that movement or workout that just clicks. Maybe it’s a heavy barbell, a long grinding engine piece, or high-skill gymnastics. When it shows up for you on the board, you know — this is my lane. It’s where your strength, experience, and confidence come together.
But here’s what separates spiritual athletes from selfish ones: they don’t just stay in their wheelhouse — they use their fitness to lift others up. Just like God uses His grace to lift us up.
We define grace as the undeserved kindness and power of God working in us and for us. And one of the ways grace shows up in our lives is by equipping us. God doesn’t just save us — He strengthens us, gifts us, and prepares us to step into His work. The things you’ve been given — your abilities, your experiences, your growth — they’re not random. They’re grace at work.
Peter makes it clear: “use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” That means your wheelhouse isn’t just for you. It’s for the person next to you who’s struggling. It’s for the one who doesn’t have your strength yet. It’s for the community God has placed you in.
So how does God’s grace strengthen us for His work? It builds capacity in us so we can pour out to others. The patience you’ve developed becomes encouragement for someone who’s frustrated. The discipline you’ve built becomes an example for someone just starting. The strength you’ve gained becomes support for someone under load.
Think about a partner workout. When your partner hits a wall, you step in. You pick up the pace. You carry more of the weight. Not to show off, but to keep the team moving forward. That’s grace in action. That’s what it looks like to operate out of your wheelhouse.
And here’s the truth — your wheelhouse didn’t come from you alone. It was built through grace. Through opportunities, through challenges, through moments where God strengthened you when you didn’t have it on your own.
So don’t hold it back. Don’t keep your strength to yourself. Look around. Who needs what God has built in you?
Because grace doesn’t just prepare you or refine you — it equips you. And when you step into that, you start to see your purpose clearly. You’re not just training for yourself. You’re training to serve others.
Stay in your lane, but don’t stay there alone. Use your strength. Share your growth. Step into the work God has for you.
That’s your wheelhouse.
Questions for Reflection:
How has God gifted you to serve others?
Who is someone in your life who’s poured into you?
